# 28 - Anniversary
Posted on June 15, 2007
Today (June 15) is the one year anniversary of the founding of the
east-timor-studies,
list on Yahoo groups. John MacDougall started this educational list soon after
the violence last year (immediately prior, he was sending East Timor postings
to his indonesian-studies
list, and it has been going strong ever since. Currently there are over 400
members and four moderators. (In the interest of full disclosure, I am one of
the assistant moderators.)
The Messages are archived and public. They are in four languages -- English,
Portuguese, Indonesian, and Tetun (and occasionally Spanish and French). They
are easy to search. You can both keep up and catch up.
The Links
are also public. These enable you to do your own searching for the type of
resources you want -- for instance, blogs, news, language tools, academic
work, government reports, etc. The links section is growing by the day.
To see the photos and files and other good stuff, too, you need to
join. Join!
When you are a member, you can change your settings as you wish. For
instance, if you want the postings bundled, set it for 'digest'. If you don't
want to receive emails, you can set it to 'no email' and just visit the
website. And any time you want to change your settings, you can.
A presidential election happened in East Timor in April and May. A
parliamentary election is coming up, on June 30.
Happy anniversary, east-timor-studies!
