Welcome to Antara Kita

Wayang

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the Spring 2008 issue of Antara Kita, the website for the Indonesian and East Timor Studies Committee of the Association for Asian Studies.  Please take a few moments to explore our newly redesigned website and some of its exciting new features, including constantly updated news articles on Indonesia and East Timor in both English and Indonesian as well as our new list serve.

The list serve is open to anyone simply by clicking on “subscribe.”  We are hoping that it will turn into an important forum for scholars of Indonesia and East Timor from around the world can share their views, seek answers to questions, and report on current events of common interest.

As promised, we have also converted our Directory of Scholars to make it more user-friendly.  We are asking those of you who wish to be listed to click on “Directory” and then “Submit a Listing.”  You will be presented with a template to fill out after which you need only click on “Save” for it to be sent to the webmaster for posting.  If you wish to update your entry, simply repeat the process.

We will continue the practice, begun in 2003, in which all Articles and Reviews are dated as per their date of first placement on the website. When an Article or Review is later modified (updated), the date of its most recent update will be added. Meetings and Events and Educational and Job Opportunities will continue to be added when received and deleted once past.

If you know of a book, film, or other media that you would like to see reviewed or review yourself (you get to keep it books!), please contact:

Ian Parker, Antara Kita Book Review Editor, Asian Cultural History Program - Smithsonian, NHB Rm. 311; MRC 112, PO Box 37012, Washington, DC 20013-7012,USA

Don't forget to check out  "Resources for Researchers!" where you will find still archived  editions of "What's Up on the Web" by Elizabeth Coville and links to other resources we believe will be of interest.  If you know of additional links, we welcome your suggestions.

We are highly gratified at the response to Antara Kita on-line. Please continue to let others know about Antara Kita. We want Antara Kita to increasingly serve the needs of scholars and others interested in Indonesia and East Timor. To do so, we need YOUR input, so keep us posted on items of mutual interest.

Wassalam,

Association for Asian Studies 2009 Annual Meeting: Call for Papers

The 2009 AAS meeting to be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago, March 26-29.  We encourage those interested in Indonesia and East Timor to submit proposals for Organized Panels, Roundtables, Workshops, and Individual Papers. The Organizing Committee seeks sessions that will engage panelists and audiences in the consideration of ideas, information, and interpretations that will advance knowledge about Asian regions and, by extension, will enrich teaching about Asia at all levels.  For more information, please click on http://www.aasianst.org/annual-meeting/2009-Call-for-Papers.htm
